Highwind Brewery

Location:

Junction City, KS

Project Completion:

2024

Story:

A grouping of over 30 families came together to turn Junction City’s “Old Waters Hardware Building” into Highwind Brewery Company. A perfect nod to the Kansas wind.

The building — 3 stories in height, sat empty for 25 years and was in significant need of repair.
The north side of the first floor required to be jacked up, leveled, and reinforced, while the south side required additional metal bracing, joist sistering, and supports for the second floor. The entire north second floor and roof were completely replaced. Two new stairways were built from the basement, one leading to the roof, with plans to extend the back staircase to the rooftop later. An elevator was installed, running from the basement to the rooftop, and the old freight elevator was removed.

The owner has plans underway for a basement speakeasy and roof top venue space to be ready 2025/2026.
