Story:
The Flint Hills Breadbasket is a non-profit food network that serves the Manhattan, Fort Riley, Riley County and St. George communities. Their mission is to provide reliable access to healthy food, build connections with communities partners and empower neighbors to meet their basic needs. The FHBB has an on-site program called ‘The Market” which supports weekly visits for anyone experience food insecurity. This market could only facilitate a few individuals at a time to shop for their needs, limiting the breadbasket on what they could provide to the community on a daily basis.
Thanks to a capital campaign of $3.1 Million, a new property was acquired and expanding the size of The Market, storage and warehousing to better meet the needs of the community.
Shopping for food for our families is a deeply personal endeavor, especially for those that are food insecure. Creating a warm, and inviting space that felt like a super market, allowed guests to shop with space, additional options and a clean, friendly environment. The breadbasket and community are thrilled with the updates and we look forward to seeing this feed our families for as long as needed.
